Applicants Submitting I-485 for U.S. Green Card: USCIS Has Permanently Changed an Important Application Regulation!

Although the progress of U.S. immigration priority dates has been less than satisfactory in recent months, USCIS has recently modified a green card application policy: from now on, most green card applicants will need to submit Form I-693 (the medical examination report) simultaneously when submitting Form I-485. Otherwise, the I-485 application may be denied!

In the past, during the I-485 application phase, due to the validity period of the medical examiner's signature and the I-693 report, it was common practice to first submit the I-485 application and then provide the I-693 report only after receiving a Request for Evidence (RFE) from USCIS.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, USCIS has made several adjustments to the signature and validity requirements for the I-693 report. They have now formally revised the submission requirements for the I-693 report. Therefore, applicants who will be submitting I-485 should be aware that they need to include a completed and signed I-693 report, along with a sealed record of their vaccination history, filled out by a USCIS-designated civil surgeon in their I-485 application package!

According to U.S. immigration law, applicants for immigration visas must undergo a required medical examination and complete a series of vaccinations before receiving approval results. This is what we commonly refer to as the immigration medical examination.

Green card applicants in the U.S. must have their medical examinations conducted by a USCIS-authorized civil surgeon. After the examination and receiving all required vaccinations, the civil surgeon will be responsible for completing the I-693 medical examination report form.
